The Dean of Students at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Mr. Stephen Frimpong Manso has revealed that, the delay associated with the release of students' results are attributed to a lot of factors which include the large number of part time Lecturers on Campus.

According to her, quality communication experts are needed in every society to communicate policies and decisions in order to achieve development.

"We need to sharpen our skills as well as our knowledge on a regular basis to ensure that our country does not lack the needed mantra to enhance communication."

Rev Dr. Joyce Aryee made this call while speaking on the theme, "Communication as a catalyst for national development" at the third annual graduation ceremony of graduate students at the Ghana Institute of journalism on the 23rd February 2018 in Accra.

Meanwhile, the acting rector of the Institute, Dr. Ofusu Modestus has hinted that research funds are going to be established to support conferences and publications of research works.

He said this will encourage students and faculty research activities.

Nana Yaa Agyari the wife of ace broadcaster Mr. Tommy Annan Forson was adjudged the overall best student of Master of Art in Journalism.

Gari Vibes, a popular brand on GIJ Campus which offers students with rich gari soakings has assured everyone of a "surprise package" ahead of its services on Thursday, 22, February, 2018.

In an exclusive interview with Edem Nyonator a Level 200C student at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, who doubles as the brain behind Gari Vibes stated that all students should expect something different which he termed as "a surprise package" from the company.

He explained that the surprise package is replete with gari soakings of flavours like strawberry, vanilla and banana in addition to the popular gari soakings.



The company with its tagline as "Di No Style Bia Bi" meaning "eat it in any style" has asked students to come in their numbers and have a feel of their "surprise package.

This is the second time the company is rendering services to their fellow students on campus.

Activities such as Art Exhibition, Film Trip and Mic Up will also take place at the forecourt of G.I.J to mark the fourth day of the S.R.C. Week Celebration.

Please permit me to discuss the matter of our Institution (G.I.J.) again. I’m truly troubled because of the attitude I saw on display yesterday.

I wish to state tentatively, that this write-up is at the behest of what went on Monday, 12th February 2018.

I am no journalist, not in any sense of the word. I would have written a reportage with the headline AUTHORITY DRIVES STUDENTS OUT OF LECTURE HALL but rather I am just a student of a Journalism Institute.

I modify space or rather create living or livable and sometimes unlivable environment.

I am not an aspirant either, but I would not for the life of me keep quiet at a time like this, when all pressure groups including LOPA (I smile) and even the Revolutionist that stands for student interest are quiet.

Silence would mean a tacit approval and acceptance of things as they are.

I am cynic. A thorough going pessimist and a realist. GIJ is as is, things are and they exist in different layers even though the SRC assures us everything will be fine.

Nothing is black or white and truth, to the postmodernist, varies or depends on who is telling it. What is it I will not be quiet about? Student denied of Lecture halls. But as I told my friends when we started this conversation, that I am conflicted and have many thoughts on this. Hope, in a way is the greatest of all evils. It prolongs human misery.

The hope that things will be better, especially when there is much against this hope, is to prolong our misery. Herein is my first conflict. I am agitating for change. I hope change is possible. But I also believe such a hope prolongs my misery.

The cycle of prolonging seem to me to have no end in sight. In GIJ, it does look like it will only get worse. The institute has, by convincing the student populace and other external enemies, militarized the population. And the most unfortunate thing in this has happened at the level where critical thinking is a luxury.

In my brief study of history, I have come to the conclusion that historical events do not have a single cause, but that their causes go back decades in an unbroken continuum of cause-effect. What are we to do in such a scenario? What can each of us do to affect the cause of history or rather to improve the present?

Are we to watch helplessly as history unfolds before us? How do we become participants in changing the course of history, to write a different history?

These and many more questions are what we are called to reflect upon.

The Students' Representative Council at the Ghana Institute of Journalism in a communiqué issued on Tuesday, 13th February 2018, has posited its gross disapproval on a new directive from the School's Management to close all Lecture Halls after each class, despite the latter's decision to protect electronic gadgets mounted in the various halls.

They believe this move instituted by Management weakens their power as the voice of the major stakeholders as far as the Ghana Institute of Journalism is concerned since they were not in anyway consulted with the implementation of this directive.

Signed and released by the General Secretary of the Students' Representative Council, Nathaniel Alpha, the communiqué also stressed on the growing discomfort likely to hit students in the coming days due to the limited space on Campus.

"We are of the view that such a decision would greatly inconvenient students and hamper learning and group studies on campus.".

Meanwhile, the S.R.C. has assured students of its commitment to 'fight' for them until this worrying situation is resolved.

"As an S.R.C., we would employ all the necessary measures to ensure that this new directive is not implemented. Students should remain calm as we speak to management on this matter."

Students have also been advised to desist from the incessant touching of projectors, sockets, sound systems and other gadgets available in the Lecture Halls.

"​In the interim, we entreat all students should refrain from touching the projectors, the sockets in front of the classes and sound systems as they are now being regulated or operated by the security.​"

Below is the communiqué issued by the GIJ-SRC;

SRC WILL NEVER ACCEPT NEW DIRECTIVES FROM MANAGEMENT TO LOCK ALL LECTURE HALLS AFTER EVERY LECTURE

The SRC has strong reservations about the decision of Management to lock lecture halls after lectures as we have not been consulted before this measure.

That in itself undermines the powers of the SRC as the voice of the major stakeholders as far as GIJ is concerned and we will not tolerate that.

Management must not take us for granted.

We are of the view that such a decision would greatly inconvenient students and hamper learning and group studies on campus.

Information available to the SRC indicates that the decision to lock the lecture halls after lectures is based on the need to protect the new projectors, microphones and speakers in all the lecture halls.

In as much as the practice of locking lecture halls exist in other schools, the case of GIJ is different in the sense that the school as it stands now has no student lounge and the school's library is not spacious enough to accommodate students during leisure hours and that GIJ is non-residential.

As an SRC ,we would employ all the necessary measures to ensure that this new directive is not implemented.

Students should remain calm as we speak to management on this matter.

In the interim, we entreat all students should refrain from touching the projectors, the sockets in front of the classes and sound systems as they are now being regulated or operated by the security.

Students must also refrain from littering lecture halls too.

Reports emerged from Campus [yesterday] Monday, 12th February indicating a new directive from the School's Management to close all Lecture Halls after class.
