Students share their expectations for the second semester

The second semester for the 2017/2018 at the Ghana Institute of Journalism has commenced, effective 12th February, 2018 with much excitement and expectations from students.

The first week of every semester has been tagged us an inactive one [Management hasn't confirmed] by most students, but that wouldn’t stop Lecturers from entering the classs to teach during the week.

Majority of students are already geared for this semester. However, some of them have wished for the postponement of the reopening date to a latter day considering their ‘unfinished’ business back home.

In an attempt to have a feel of what’s happening on campus, and how students are coping with their first week on Campus, Radio GIJ Online set out today to find out the expectations of these students and how they intend achieving their goals for the semester.

1. "I had lectures today. My expectation is to gain some experience in terms of Radio and TV production should everything go well as planned, and as such I have prepared myself by reading around the course. Postponement of the semester will worsen matters considering how long the vacation was."

— Segtaa Pascaline

2. "I am well settled for academic and extracurricular activities. This semester seems to be a very hectic one. Apart from class work, the main thing I have in mind as a Level 100 student is to see for myself the electioneering period of GIJ. I hope to achieve all my goals in all diligence. Discipline. I believe so much that God will see me through. I am really looking forward to we starting lectures this week in earnest."

— Samuel Swanzy-Baffoe

3. "This semester should be stress-free. I don't have to postpone learning but should do it anytime, and I am well prepared."

— Reuben Tetteh Sackey

4. "I am readily prepared. I have a goal and an expectation and it is my hope they would be achieved."

— Jessica Kassah

5. "Well I'm prepared for the semester in a sense that I've revised my strategies. Last semester's approach towards learning was great and this semester I hope to improve on that. My expectations are great and I seek to achieve that by successfully implementing my goals."

— Destina Mensah

6. My expectations lie within the upcoming elections, and the S.R.C week celebration should be one of the best. I don't think lectures should be postponed.

— Oduro Opoku Emmanuel

Well, we also had the sentiments of students who revealed their unpreparedness to embrace the semester but still looked forward to achieving their goals.

1. "Charley! I miss home like crazy, hadn't it been my parents, I would've been sleeping all this while. But all the same, I'm looking forward to something great this semester."

— Amoabeng David

2. "Honestly speaking, I can't afford waking up for early morning class. I have no choice anyway, I know I will cope with in the coming weeks. May Good see us through semester."

— Benewaa Esther

3. "Operation all 'As' this semester. But the home-sick' feeling is still in mind. I wished some students could  join me write a letter management for postponement."

— Paul Asante

4. "Now that school has resumed, I wouldn't be getting the little allowance from work. Administration should kindly spare an extra week at home."

— Margaret Arthur

The second semester of every Tertiary Institution is well noted for its series of activities; right from lectures, seminars and much more.

With the Ghana Institute of Journalism not been an exception, students are looking forward to have a feel of the S.R.C. Week Celebration, series of workshops and seminars, the S.R.C. Elections, Excursions and other extra-curricular activities of students' interest.
