10 Ghanaian foods you should avoid late at night

Most Ghanaian foods are considered healthy but taking these foods late in the night will not be good for your health.

Here are the foods you should avoid eating late at night.


1. Fufu



Fufu takes long to digest, so when you take it late in the night, it will not be good for your health. Our forefathers knew about this that is why the food was consumed as early as 5:00 pm for dinner. But these days, due to our busy lifestyle, the food is 'consumed' very late.

2. Banku



Banku, just like Fufu, is another dish you should avoid in the night because it also takes time to digest and will not be good for your health.

3. Konkonte



Konkonte is a dish prepared from cassava and shares a lot of similarities with Fufu and Banku. It is not appropriate to eat it in the night.

4. Waakye



Waakye contains beans, which produces gas, which is not good for one to eat at night.

5. 'Red Red'



Gari and Beans, commonly called “red red”, just like Waakye is full of beans, when ate in the night, could cause bloating.

6. Tuo Zaafi



Tuo Zaafi shares a lot of similarities with Banku and also prepared with maize. Eating it in the night could cause heaviness and it might not digest on time which can affect your health.

7. Rice Balls



Eating foods high in carbohydrates is not really good for your health in the night. Omotuo, Rice Balls, cannot be exempted.

8. Yam



Yam is starchy, taking it late in the night is not good for you because the various reasons we’ve explained above.

9. Plantain



Plantain also takes time to digest, it contains a lot of starch, which is not good for your health when eaten late in the night.

10. Tubaani



Tubaani is made from beans and so by now you should know too much protein in the night is not good for you and could also cause bloating in the night.
