Lessons from the Life of EBONY

“Its a been a long day, without you my friend, and I will tell you all about it when I see you again”. These are the words of Wiz Kalifa ft Charlie Puth.

Thursday, February 8, a talented artiste left Ghana in tears after she died in a gory accident. Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng popularly known as Ebony met her untimely death after visiting her mum in Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo region.

Most celebrities and fans are still in shock especially her family. Mzvee says she can’t believe Ebony is gone and she thinks she is dreaming, Abeiku Santana, a radio presenter, can’t withstand the shock among others.

But did Ebony leave us with nothing? Of course not. Apart from her music song as Maame Hwe, Poison, Kupe and others will still be with us but intangibly what did she leave with us?

Use your God-given talents effectively.

Ebony is known because she used her talent to the best of her ability. Ebony wouldn’t have be known if she had kept that talent to herself but she used it to impact many. This should tell us that our talents are not meant for us but for us to use it to impact the lives of others.

How to deal with criticism.

Ebony is one of the female artiste who has being criticize heavily ranging from her dressing, tattoos and even the lyrics in her songs. One would think this could weigh her down but she rose above that and still soar higher. Yes, she took some in faith and ignored some which all of us must learn from. No matter what you do, the criticism will surely come. Is up to you to rise above them and Ebony is a classical example.

Someone will always appreciate your work.

Regardless of the critics, I believe one thing that keeps Ebony going was because someone somewhere appreciate what she does. Even if it’s one person who likes what you do, don’t stop. Continue to do it. Her father appreciate her work and even did a video with her to tell her that “hey if no one appreciate you, I do.” Even after her death her Mr Kwarteng says ” my girl is amazing, splendid and unique that Ghana would ever have.”

Be yourself.

Most people especially the youth these day live their lives for others and not themselves. They try to please any other person either than themselves. But Ebony’s life has taught as that no matter what is being said about you, take your destiny into your own hands and live to meet that because life they say is too short and you only live once so live to the fullest.

Smile no matter what.

This must be absurd with this but I has never seen Ebony angry. She always have this infectious smile even when she is criticized or something bad being said about her. Smile does not mean that there is no problem but to say that everything is gonna be alright.

I end with this quote on Kafui Danku’s post on Instagram which says ” People will be saving your photos when you die but when its your birthday, they can’t even celebrate you. They post for a minute and take it down as if their Instagram or Facebook memory is full. Celebrate life when is necessary. Suddenly everyone has become a motivational speaker.”

Rest in Peace Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng
